Porto Cervo 2025: Where Sailing Meets Spectacle

Each summer, Porto Cervo transforms into the beating heart of international sailing. Perched on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, with the granite beauty of the Maddalena archipelago as a natural amphitheater, this tiny town becomes a grand stage where the sea, the wind, and the world’s most competitive yachts converge.

In September 2025, two of the most prestigious events in the sailing calendar return to Porto Cervo: the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the 52 Super Series Porto Cervo Sailing Week. Together, they promise a month of unforgettable competition, glamour, and Mediterranean magic.

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2025 : Power and Prestige

Dates: 7–13 September 2025

Few regattas carry the same aura of legend as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. Celebrating its 35th edition, the event has been shaped by four decades of Rolex partnership and stands as the de facto world championship for maxi yachts.

This year’s competition is set to be particularly special, featuring two official world-title races:

Maxi 1 Class, reserved for the highest-performance giants (IRC TCC ≥ 1.700).

Maxi Grand Prix Class, where pure racing pedigree, descended from the Maxi 72s, takes the spotlight.

With a minimum entry size of 60 feet, these yachts are not just boats, they’re works of engineering art, sailed by elite crews from every corner of the globe. Racing will unfold across courses that weave through La Maddalena, offering tactically demanding conditions and breathtaking views.

From the Skippers’ Briefing and Welcome Cocktail on 7 September to the Prizegiving in Piazza Azzurra on 13 September, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup promises a blend of tradition, luxury, and fierce competition.

52 Super Series Porto Cervo Sailing Week – The Grand Finale

Dates: 22–27 September 2025

If the Maxi Cup is about scale and prestige, the 52 Super Series is about speed, precision, and raw adrenaline. The Porto Cervo Sailing Week will serve as the grand finale of the 2025 season, concluding a year that has already seen stops in Saint-Tropez, Baiona, Cascais, and Puerto Portals.

Up to 13 TP 52 teams are expected, including returning champions like Quantum Racing and Sled, alongside newcomers such as the Italian team Alkedo powered by Vitamina. Racing in this class is famously tight, every yacht built to the same “Box Rule,” meaning victory depends not on handicaps but on flawless tactics, teamwork, and consistency across ten races.

As the season decider, Porto Cervo promises drama: it’s often here, with the emerald waters as witness, that the overall champion is crowned, sometimes in the very last race.

Why Porto Cervo?

As Ed Reynolds of Quantum Racing once said, “Porto Cervo seems like a place created by nature specifically for racing.” Its turquoise waters, reliable winds, and island-studded courses are a sailor’s dream. Add in the elegance of the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, the glitter of Sardinia’s luxury lifestyle, and the international mix of crews and spectators, and it’s clear why Porto Cervo is a crown jewel of the global sailing calendar.

Star Yacht Group’s View

At Star Yacht Group, we are passionate supporters of regattas and the vibrant sailing culture that thrives in Porto Cervo. For us, these September events perfectly capture what makes Sardinia such a unique destination: world-class racing, unforgettable scenery, and a lifestyle that blends luxury with adventure.

We also believe September is one of the best months to visit Sardinia. The weather is still warm, the seas shimmer with Mediterranean brilliance, but the high-summer crowds have eased. It’s the ideal time to enjoy the island’s natural beauty, its refined hospitality, and, of course, the excitement of the regattas.

The Spirit of September in Porto Cervo

Whether you’re drawn by the grandeur of the maxi yachts or the razor-sharp duels of the TP 52s, Porto Cervo in September 2025 offers something rare: a chance to witness sailing at its highest level in one of the most spectacular venues on earth.

These aren’t just races, they’re celebrations of craftsmanship, rivalry, and the timeless dance between yacht and sea.
